Mark Chassin, MD, serves as the president and CEO of The Joint Commission. He is the president of The Joint Commission Center for Transforming Healthcare, which works in tandem with U.S. hospital and health system leaders on a series of issues such as wrong-site surgeries and surgical site infections, among several others.
Dr. Chassin is the founding chairman of the health policy department at New York City-based Mount Sinai School of Medicine. During his tenure at Mount Sinai, he developed a quality improvement program. He conducted research at the medicine school focused on healthcare quality measures, as well.
He is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. The National Associates of the National Academies named Dr. Chassin to its first group of honorees as a lifetime member.
