AmSurg's Ophthalmology Division President John Grant shared three key thoughts on cost containment for the cover story in this month's issue of The Ophthalmic ASC.
Here's what you should know:
1. Mr. Grant spoke on the importance of comparing costs between surgeons in an ASC.
2. He emphasized although each surgeon should use the tools they feel will make the biggest positive impact on a patient, if the cost of a certain product is significantly higher than the norm, the center's quality committee should work to offer up comparable, lower cost alternatives.
3. When incorporating a new procedure into the mix, Mr. Grant recommends centers perform a pro forma of case costs after the first 10 cases to check for costing accuracy.
