University of Chicago Medicine created ILColonCARES.org to help providers schedule colorectal cancer screenings for residents aged 50-years-old to 75-years-old.
Here's what you should know.
1. Other Illinois-based medical centers like Rush University Medical Center, Heartland Health Centers, Community Health, Friend Family Health, Asian Human Services Family Health Center and Swedish Covenant Hospital are donating 100 free screenings to the service.
2. If medical centers expand and scale the model across the state, estimates say approximately 6,000 people could benefit.
3. Initially, physicians will use the portal for patients that are most at risk.
4. The Center for Asian Health Equity is considering expanding the program to other communities in the country.
