New York City-based Colon Cancer Foundation launched its "Protect Your Butt" colorectal cancer awareness campaign Feb. 28, 2017.

Here's what you should know.

1. Colorectal cancer awareness month kicks off March 1, 2017. The foundation has several events scheduled through the month to increase colorectal cancer awareness.

2. The kick-off event is the "World's Largest Booty Shake," set for March 1, 2017 at New York City-based Central Park. The foundation expects thousands of colon cancer survivors to participate.

3. Foundation Director Thomas Weber, MD, said, "Our kick-off booty shake event is just the beginning. Too many people avoid talking about colon cancer because they are unaware or scared. Our new multifaceted Protect Your Butt! Campaign will reach millions of Americans through large events, social media, email marketing and television. We are literally going to shake this up, raise money for the cure and save lives."

4. New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System is the event's presenting sponsor. Artists Mark MK and DJ Theo are debuting a song for the event called, "PYB — Protect Your Butt." The artists are donating all proceeds towards colon cancer research.
