GI physician leader to know: Dr. Steven Itzkowitz of Mount Sinai School of Medicine

Steven H. Itzkowitz, MD, is the associate director of The Dr. Henry D. Janowitz Division of Gastroenterology and director of the GI Fellowship Program at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. His is a past chair of the gastrointestinal oncology section of the American Gastroenterological Association and past president of the New York Gastroenterological Association.

Dr. Itzkowitz focuses on colon polypectomy, colonoscopy, colorectal cancer, Crohn's disease, familial adenomatous polyposis, flexible sigmoidoscopy and ulcerative colitis. He has served as a study section member for the National Cancer Institute and Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. He serves as an editor of the International Journal of Colorectal Disease and as associate editor of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and Gastric Cancer. He also serves on the steering committee of the NY City Department of Health Citywide Colon Cancer Control Coalition. Dr. Itzkowitz also has an active interest in research that focuses on gastrointestinal cancer.

Dr. Itzkowitz earned his medical degree at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at Bellevue/NYU Hospital Center. He completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at University of California San Francisco.
