GI physician leader to know: Dr. Richard Peek of Vanderbilt University Medical Center

Richard Peek Jr., MD, is director of the gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition division, the Mina Cobb Wallace Chair in Immunology and a professor of cancer biology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. Additionally, he is the director of the Digestive Disease Research Center.

Dr. Peek has a wide-array of research interests, including pathogenesis of Helicobacter pylori infection and gastric cancer. He serves as editor-in-chief of Gastroenterology. He has also had his work published in a number of prestigious publications, such as Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Gastroenterology Clinics of North America and Infection and Immunity.

Dr. Peek earned his medical degree from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed his residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System. He completed his fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
