GI physician leader to know: Dr. Loren Laine of Yale University School of Medicine

Loren A. Laine, MD, is a professor of medicine in the digestive diseases section and director of clinical research at the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn., and an attending physician at the Yale-affiliated West Haven VA Medical Center. He is a past president of the American Gastroenterological Association.

Dr. Laine is also a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and the American College of Physicians. He is also a past member of the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Laine's research interests include gastrointestinal hemorrhage and upper gastrointestinal injury. He also focuses on therapeutic endoscopy. He has won a number of awards for his research, including the AGA's Fitterman Foundation Clinical Research in Gastroenterology Award and the American College of Gastroenterology's Governors Award for Excellence in Clinical Research.

Dr. Laine completed his medical degree and internal medicine residency at the University of California, Los Angeles and a gastroenterology fellowship at the University of California, San Diego.
