GI physician leader to know: Dr. John Sheehan of University of Mississippi Medical Center

John J. Sheehan, MD, is a practicing gastroenterologist at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He is also an associate professor at UMMC's School of Medicine. He is a member of American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, American Gastroenterological Association and a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Sheehan has previously served as an associate professor at Sonny Montgomery Veterans Administration Medical Center's School of Medicine in Jackson. His clinical interests include acid reflux disease, constipation, hepatitis C and irritable bowel syndrome. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Digestive Diseases and Sciences, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Gastroenterology.

Dr. Sheehan earned his medical degree at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey. He completed his residency at Cleveland Clinic Foundation and his fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.
