GI physician leader to know: Dr. Edward Loftus of Mayo Clinic

Edward V. Loftus Jr., MD, is a professor of medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He is on the steering committee of the IBD Working Group and has chaired the Patient Education Committee of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and American Board of Internal Medicine-Gastroenterology.

Dr. Loftus serves on the editorial board of Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology and as an associate editor for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. He previously served as editorial board for Gastroenterology.

Dr. Loftus' research interests focus on epidemiology of inflammatory bowel disease; natural history of inflammatory bowel disease; diagnosis and disease activity assessment of inflammatory bowel disease; medical therapy of inflammatory bowel disease and pharmacoeconomics of inflammatory bowel disease.

Dr. Loftus earned his medical degree at University of Pennsylvania and completed his residency at Temple University Health Sciences Center, both located in Philadelphia. He completed his fellowship at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.
