Samir Gupta, MD, is an associate professor at the University of California San Diego and was recently the course director for the 4th Annual Advances in Gastroenterology and Hepatology Conference in La Jolla, Calif. He was previously on the faculty at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Health and Hospital System in Dallas.
He has a special interest in managing complex polyps and conducts clinical research into colorectal cancer screening and prevention. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Gupta has participated in randomized controlled trials of strategies to increase colorectal cancer screening rates and observational studies for new methods for risk-stratification of patients with polyps.
He performs colonoscopy, fecal immunochemical tests and sigmoidoscopy.
Dr. Gupta earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan and completed his internal medicine residency at the University of California, San Francisco. His additional training includes a fellowship in gastroenterology at University of Pennsylvania and UCSF.
