Here are six statistics on compensation for gastroenterologists in both practice models, according to the Medscape 2015 Gastroenterologist Compensation report.

Employed
•    Average overall compensation: $316,000
•    Average compensation for women: $292,000
•    Average compensation for men: $321,000

Self-employed
•    Average overall compensation: $420,000
•    Average compensation for women: $434,000
•    Average compensation for men: $419,000
