The American Academy of Pediatrics awarded the 2016 Murray Davidson Award to Steven M. Schwarz, MD.
Here's what you should know.
1. Dr. Schwarz is the director of the gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition division at New York's SUNY Downstate Medical Center.
2. The award recognizes a clinician, educator or scientist who made significant contributions to the pediatric gastroenterology field.
3. Dr. Schwarz has extensive experience in gastroenterology. He began his career after earning his medical degree from New York's Columbia University. He completed a residency at Stanford (Calif.) University and fellowship at New York's Columbia University.
4. He is a past chair of the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition's clinical care and quality committee and ethics committee. He has authored several of the society's bylines.
