The North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition has granted Ajay Jain, MD, medical director of the pediatric liver transplant program at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis, a $150,000 grant, according to a News Medical report.
The grant will allow Dr. Jain to study preventative strategies for total parenteral nutrition-associated disorders.
Dr. Jain's research has found unique molecules and pathways altered during TPN, according to the report. He hopes his research will eventually lead to methods for alleviating serious complications related to TPN used in newborns.
