The American College of Gastroenterology has updated its guidelines for the management of acute pancreatitis, and they will appear in the September issue of The American Journal of Gastroenterology. Updated guidelines have recommendations for diagnosis, initial assessment, nutrition and management. They emphasize the need for early aggressive intravenous hydration and close observation of patients being hydrated.
