The American Gastroenterological Association has released a new strategic plan for 2015 to 2020. Here are seven things to know about the professional organization's core goals.
1. The AGA's six focuses for the next five years will be practice and quality, research and innovation, education and training, advocacy, publications and organizational vitality.
2. In the area of practice and quality, the AGA hopes to define ideal clinical practice and aid GI physicians in providing high-quality and high-value patient care.
3. Through research and innovation, the AGA aims to support scientific discovery and apply discovery to the improvement of patient care.
4. Next, the organization wants to hone in on education and training through engaging its members and other GI physicians in personalized education initiatives.
5. The AGA will also focus on advocacy. The organization will strive to impact public policy and advance digestive disease research and education.
6. The AGA hopes its journals will lead in the area of GI and hepatology.
7. Finally, the AGA wants to maintain a diverse membership, develop new leaders in the field and maintain organizational vitality.
