The American Gastroenterological Association, RealCME and RMEI Medical Education completed the first phase of their continuing medical education curriculum and research initiative for community-based GI clinicians to improve care for inflammatory bowel diseases.
The initiative is called "The Gastroenterology Learning Pathway: Achieving Success in IBD Management" and features a curriculum focused on drug monitoring and personalized approach to managing IBD patients.
"The AGA Institute is engaged in this long-term endeavor for one, because there is real value creation for our membership whenever educational resources are tailored to their specific areas of need," said Maura Davis, senior director of education. "Additionally, our hope is that the impact is equally positive for the broader GI community, hence our outreach to state gastroenterological societies in areas of need."
The partners conducted symposia in the second half of 2016 with select state GI societies and launched web courses internationally. The learner performance data is currently under review using advanced analytics to identify drivers of clinical gaps in IBD management. The analysis also determines areas of ongoing educational need.
The analysis will guide AGA's Certificate Program in IBD.
AbbVie, Shire and Takeda Pharmaceuticals USA supported the educational grant funding for the initiative.
