AGA issues technology coverage statement on MIS GERD treatments — 5 things to know

The American Gastroenterological Association released a technology coverage statement on minimally invasive surgical options for gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Here are five things to know:

1. The AGA statement cited surgeons performing transoral incisionless fundoplication using the EndoGastric Solutions' EsophyX device system study results.

2. AGA has not updated its medical position policy on GERD treatment since 2008.

3. The FDA cleared the first generation EsophyX in 2007. EndoGastric Solutions launched the EsophyX Z, the third generation EsophyX device, in 2015.

4. GERD is the most common gastrointestinal-related disease physicians diagnose in the United States.

5. Redmond, Wash.-based EndoGastric Solutions develops incisionless surgical GERD treatment technology.
