Nearly 300 patients who underwent colonoscopy at Noble Hospital in Westfield, Mass., could have been exposed to HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C due to improperly sterilized scopes, according to a 22News report.
Scott Zoback, communications director at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, said issues related to scope cleanliness have occurred at other hospitals in the state, according to the report.
Thus far, no patients who have been screened tested positive for any of the diseases to which they were potentially exposed.
