At Becker's ASC Meeting in Chicago on Oct. 23, three industry experts provided advice on how to help an ASC achieve success.
Jeff Peo, chief development officer of Ambulatory Surgery Centers of America, said it is important to "know thy self." ASC owners and administrators need to understand their operations, their market, and their competitors to figure out what their weaknesses are. Once the weaknesses are identified, then the ASC can either fix them or find a partner to help them fix the issue.
Stacey Taylor, senior vice president of operations at ASCOA agreed, and said, "It is vital to know your competition that is in the surrounding area."
Luke Lambert, CEO of ASCOA, said some centers should consider partnerships. "As hospitals are controlling more and more payers, there are some payers that aren't going to provide a decent reimbursement rate unless an ASC is teamed up with a hospital," he said.
