More patients are undergoing outpatient inflatable penile prosthesis surgery, according to a Renal & Urology News report.
Researchers gathered data on 40,488 IPP procedures over the past 10 years and found the outpatient procedures increased from 54.3 percent in 2005 to 83.2 percent in 2015. The study authors also calculated the percentage of outpatient IPP procedures by region:
1. Southeast: 46.7 percent
2. Midwest: 21.5 percent
3. Southwest: 12.7 percent
4. West: 11.9 percent
5. Northeast: 7.1 percent
The study also calculated the infection rate, which was 1.5 percent for inpatient IPP and 0.9 percent for outpatient IPP.
