Tyler Goldberg, MD, of Austin-based Texas Orthopedics, spoke with Spectrum News on outpatient hip surgery's benefits.
Here are four thoughts:
1. Prime candidates for these procedures include physiologically young patients.
2. Dr. Goldberg said candidates should not have a substantial number of medical comorbidities, such as diabetes.
3. He performed outpatient hip surgery recently on a female patient. Dr. Goldberg did not cut through the patient's muscle to install the new hip.
4. Outpatient hip surgery allows patients to get up faster without requiring narcotics.
