Shoreline Surgery Center hosts 1st Gramercy Extremity Orthopedics Bone Screw, GEO CART surgery: 5 key points

Peter A. Blume, DPM, performed the first surgery using Gramercy Extremity Orthopedics' Bone Screw and GEO CART systems at Shoreline Surgery Center in Guilford, Conn.

Here are five things to know:

1. The GEO CART is a point-of-sale system designed to reduce surgical delays, decrease sterility risks and eliminate billing mistakes due to hand written forms. The system generates the implant usage form automatically and can help reduce facility operating expenses.

2. As a computerized mobile implant and instrument inventory set, GEO CART can hold more than 2,000 items.

3. The GEO Bone Screw System offers low profile titanium screws in various lengths, diameters, thread lengths and fully threaded options. All the instruments are double sterile packaged in single use kits.

4. Dr. Blume reported the entire surgical center staff felt the screw system and cart created efficiencies in the ASC environment. "The surgical back table was free of clutter and the implant and instruments were truly best of class," said Dr. Blume. "The GEO CART finally addresses all the pitfalls when operating with orthopedic hardware, whether it be at the surgery center or hospital setting."

5. Shoreline Surgery Center is affiliated with Yale-New Haven Shoreline Medical Center and includes three operating rooms. The center focuses on outpatient orthopedic procedures, ophthalmology, oral and plastic surgery, podiatry and pain management.
