Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council released its 2015 annual report detailing key findings on ASCs throughout the state.
Here are seven key findings:
1. The number of surgery centers throughout the state fell from 288 centers in FY 2014 to 286 centers in FY 2015.
2. The average total margin among ASCs fell to 25.4 percent, a slight dip compared to 25.65 percent in FY 2014.
3. The average operating margin also fell to 25.12 percent in FY 2015. The average operating margin was 25.46 percent the fiscal year prior.
4. Throughout the state, ASCs had about 1.11 million outpatient visits in FY 2015, jumping 6.4 percent from nearly1.04 million outpatient visits during FY 2014.
5. Revenue during FY 2015 reached $1.25 billion for ASCs, up from $1.198 billion the year before.
6. Of all the outpatient procedures providers perform in Pennsylvania, ASCs performed 27.9 percent of these procedures. General acute care hospitals performed the remaining 72.1 percent of outpatient procedures.
7. Overall, ASCs in the state performed 949,284 outpatient procedures in FY 2015, up 2.2 percent from 929,192 procedures in FY 2014.
