Physicians still smiling through healthcare changes: 6 key points

Physicians report they are still happy in light of healthcare changes, according to Physicians Practice's 2015 Great American Physician survey. Kareo sponsored the survey.

Here are six key points:

1. The survey reported responses about medical careers, personal lives and politics from 1,001 physicians across the nation.

2. The average rating of "happiness" on a scale from one to 10 was 7.3.

3. When asked if they agreed with the statement, "I like being a physician," 84 percent of physicians reported either a four or five on a scale from one to five.

4. There were some frustrations, though, with 53 percent of physicians saying they would prefer to put in fewer hours on the job.

5. More than half of physicians surveyed noted they did not have a good work-life balance.

6. Despite the onset of ICD-10 coding transitioning, reimbursement shifting from volume to value and EHR changes among other transitions in the industry, physicians seem to be adapting.

"Make no mistake about it, the difficulties physicians are facing — regulatory demands from the federal government, other third-party interference and long hours — are still very much there," said Gabriel Perna, managing editor of Physicians Practice. "Yet, despite this reality, physicians are still finding joy in the practice of medicine…"
