Around 59 percent of physicians have been named in a malpractice lawsuit, according to the Medscape Malpractice Report 2015: Why Most Doctors Get Sued.
When asked what were the best ways to discourage lawsuits, respondents said:
• Cases should be prescreened for merit by medical panels before they can proceed — 81 percent
• Place caps on noneconomic damages — 62 percent
• Cases should be tried before health courts — 48 percent
• Lawyers should be banned from taking cases "on contingency" — 37 percent
• Doctors should stop making medical errors — 13 percent
