Male registered nurses have a higher salary than their female counterparts, according to a study published in JAMA.
Researchers analyzed survey data between 1988 and 2008 from the National Sample Survey of Registered Nurses, which was discontinued in 2008.
Here are five thoughts:
1. Using NSSRN data, researchers estimated that male RNs earned overall $5,148 more than female RNs, on average.
2. For ambulatory care, male RNs made $7,678 more on average than females.
3. Comparatively, male RNs earned $3,873 more, on average, in the hospital setting.
4. The data showed that unadjusted male salaries were higher than female salaries during every year.
5. Researchers did not note any statistically significant changes in female versus male salary over time.
