Amherst, NY-based Excelsior Orthopaedics won approval from the town board for a $9 million expansion, reports The Buffalo News.
Here are five key points about the expansion, according to the report:
1. About an acre of land was rezoned to make room for a new home for Excelsior's Buffalo Surgery Center.
2. The Amherst Central School District, a local council member and supervisor had their objections, but Excelsior won a four-to-one vote.
3. Excelsior and Matrix Development also plan to build a 27,690-square-foot structure at their 3915 Sheridan Drive which will house orthopedic services, pain management and ophthalmology as well as eventually gastroenterology.
4. Excelsior was 'granted relief from requirements for green space and minimum setbacks from neighboring homes.'
5. Excelsior Orthopaedics was formed from the merger of Western New York Orthopaedic Group and Amherst-Tonawanda Orthopaedics and today have 18 physicians and 14 physician assistants.
