Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Aurora Health Care partner for joint venture health plan
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Wisconsin and Aurora Health Care partnered to form a joint venture health insurance company, Wisconsin Collaborative Insurance Company. Each company will open a 50 percent stake in the health insurance company.

AAAHC elects Dr. Meena Desai board chair
The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care elected Meena Desai, MD, chair of the board of directors. Dr. Desai is a board-certified anesthesiologist and managing partner for Nova Anesthesia Professionals in Villanova, Pa.

Clinic CEO, physician convicted in massive drug trafficking scheme in Kentucky
A federal jury has convicted the president and CEO of a Hazard, Ky.-based medical clinic and her physician husband of more than 150 charges, including illegal distribution of drugs and healthcare fraud. The couple allegedly made millions of dollars by unlawfully prescribing large amounts of prescription drugs to patients.

Beloit Health System breaks ground on surgery center expansion
Beloit Health System broke ground on a new $15.3 million surgery center expansion at the NorthPointe Health and Wellness Campus in Roscoe. The facility will house two operating rooms, two procedure rooms and 14 pre- and postoperative patient care rooms.

US Coast Guard terminates Epic contract
The U.S. Coast Guard terminated its $14 million EHR implementation contract with Verona, Wis.-based Epic Systems and has since reverted to using paper records. A Coast Guard spokesman offered few details to Politico regarding the state of the implementation, saying "various irregularities were uncovered, which are currently being reviewed."

Lancaster Regional plans new orthopedic outpatient center
Lancaster (Pa.) Regional Medical Center plans to break ground next month on a new, two-story orthopedic outpatient center. Orthopedic Specialists of Central PA in Lancaster will move to the center and eventually open a new practice there.

Physician fired after hiding cameras in NY hospital's bathroom
A physician has been charged with one count of unlawful surveillance for hiding two "spy pens" in a unisex bathroom in Syracuse, N.Y.-based Crouse Hospital's intensive care unit. The physician admitted to hiding the two cameras, and his lawyer told the Post Standard the physician hid the cameras to catch the person who had stolen the prescription drug Adderall and a GoPro camera from a bag he had left in a conference room of the ICU in late February.
