4 ways to successfully run an ASC

Mundelein, Ill.-based Medline, a medical supplies distributor and manufacturer, outlines four ways to successfully open and operate an ASC.

Here are four ways to note:

1. Partner with experts. To run a successful center, partnering with different professionals is key. Many centers hire a healthcare attorney specializing in ASCs and who have experience dealing with reimbursement and regulatory requirements.

2. Ensure you complete the necessary forms to obtain reimbursement. ASCs often receive a fraction of what hospitals are reimbursed, posing obstacles to an ASC's success. Therefore, it is crucial to fill out all the necessary forms to become certified.

3. Maintain standards to receive accreditation. To ensure ASCs uphold effective policies, various accreditation agencies such as the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program and The Joint Commission give ASCs the necessary accreditation to operate in different areas.

4. Keep up with updated policies and procedures.
