Deerfield, Ill.-based Surgical Care Affiliates established its inaugural Physician Advisory Board, composed of six board members. The board members will offer guidance and industry expertise to enhance patient care and serve SCA's physicians.
Andrew Hayek, SCA's chairman and CEO; Goran Dragolovic, SCA's senior vice president; and James Grant, MD, SCA's regional vice president, will be the board's company representatives.
The first Physician Advisory Board members include:
1. Bart Asner, MD, is the CEO, chairman and founder of Monarch HealthCare, now a part of UnitedHealth Group's OptumCare. An IPA-model medical group, Monarch Healthcare involves 2,500 physicians caring for more than 200,000 patients in Orange County and Long Beach, Calif.
Dr. Asner completed his pediatrics residency at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles.
2. Robert S. Bray, MD, founded DISC Sports & Spine Center in Orange County, and Los Angeles. A leader in minimally invasive spine surgery, Dr. Bay has performed more than 10,000 successful spine surgeries, 95 percent of which have been performed in the outpatient setting.
Dr. Bray completed his residency and fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
3. Norman H. Chenven, MD, founded Austin Regional Clinic, and serves as the 300-physcian multispecialty medical group's CEO. The clinic includes 21 locations, providing care for 380,000 patients. Dr. Chenven has been on physician advisory councils for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, United HealthCare and Cigna.
Dr. Chenven completed postgraduate training at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
4. Thomas M. Deas, Jr., MD, is the vice president of physician development at North Texas Specialty Physicians in Fort Worth. He served as a board member, treasurer and president of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
Dr. Deas completed his internal medicine and gastroenterology fellowship at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
5. Stefan W. Kreuzer, MD, serves on the University of Texas Physicians faculty in Houston. Dr. Kreuzer specializes in minimally invasive hip and knee replacements, and participates on design teams for developing next-generation knee and hip implants.
Dr. Kreuzer completed his adult joint reconstruction fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine Houston.
6. Daniel Murrey, MD, serves as the CEO of OrthoCarolina and Transformant Healthcare Solutions, both located in Charlotte, N.C. Dr. Murrey's interests lie in quality improvement, data management and corporate compliance. He is a patent holder and developer of various spine care devices.
Dr. Murrey completed his spine fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.
