Minneapolis-based Hennepin County Medical Center is reducing its workforce by nearly 4 percent in 2017 so the hospital has sufficient money in its budget to open an ASC, according to Twin Cities Pioneer Press.
Here are four highlights:
1. The project is estimated to cost more than $200 million.
2. Hennepin County Medical Center expects to open the ASC in 2018.
3. This year, Hennepin County Medical Center CEO Jon Pryor, MD, said the hospital, like many facilities, had expenses for many uninsured and low-income patients that surpassed the hospital's income.
4. The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners approved the hospital's budget for next year, which will feature the job cuts.
