Grady Memorial Hospital opening $141.7M surgical center: 6 things to know

Atlanta-based Grady Memorial Hospital bought land for its new $141.7 million surgical center — Advanced Surgical Services, according to Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Here are six things to know:

1. The facility will house a bulk of the public safety net hospital's clinics. It will also serve as the site for all its outpatient surgeries.

2. The ASC will be 22,000 square feet.

3. The 198,000-square-foot surgical facility will house clinics for orthopedics, oral surgery,  gastroenterology, rehabilitation, cancer, ophthalmology and multispecialty care.

4. The hospital has plans to connect the building to the hospital via a bridge.

5. Renay Blumenthal, president of the Grady Health Foundation, said the facility will accommodate patient demands as Grady's beds and operating room space are currently at capacity.

6. Before building the facility, Grady needs to obtain funding from the county and philanthropic efforts. If the hospital meets its funding goal, it plans to start construction in September 2018 and finish the project within three to five years.
