The Ambulatory Surgery Center of Western New York received approval to move forward with construction, according to a Buffalo News report.
Here are five key notes:
1. The 30,000-square-foot surgery center will be built on the campus of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, where there is currently a baseball diamond. There will be an easement constructed between the surgery center and the University Corporate Centre at Amherst.
2. Several residents were concerned about traffic if the surgery center is built, as the site is in a residential part of town. However, surgery center advocates argue the business from the ASC wouldn't be more than traffic generated from a former nearby school.
3. The surgery center would be open from 6am to 6pm with a staggered entry and exit.
4. The ASC is planned as a one-story facility. Investors will spend $4.75 million on the facility upgrade. The surgeons hope to begin construction in June.
5. There are 25 surgeons involved in the center who performed 16,000 surgical cases last year. The specialties include plastic surgery, pain management, ophthalmology and ENT.
