The Institute for Healthcare Improvement offers two severe sepsis bundles to guide healthcare providers' care of patients with severe sepsis and septic shock.
IHI updated its sepsis bundles in conjunction with the Surviving Sepsis Campaign's updated 2012 international guidelines for the management of severe sepsis and septic shock. IHI created the Severe Sepsis 3-Hour Resuscitation Bundle and 6-Hour Septic Shock Bundle, which include goals to complete within three hours and six hours of presentation, respectively.
IHI recommends hospitals use the bundles to develop protocols for sepsis management specific to their organization.
