ICD-10 would have supplied the healthcare system with a specific code for tracking Ebola, according to a FierceHealthIT report.
Under the ICD-9 coding system, Ebola is simply identified as 078.89: other specified diseases due to viruses. Under ICD-10, Ebola would have its own specific code: A98.4.
The lack of coding specificity impedes the United States' ability to track and respond to the virus, according to the report.
