Graham-Cassidy ACA Repeal Bill would cause rates to rocket for people with pre-existing conditions — 4 insights

The latest attempt to repeal the ACA, the Graham-Cassidy ACA Repeal Bill, would drastically cut Medicaid, eliminate ACA-related subsidies and raise premiums for everyone purchasing coverage through exchanges, according to CNN.

Here's what you should know:

1. Additionally, the bill would eliminate ACA-imposed penalties on uninsured individuals or employers. It would also allow insurance companies to charge enrollees more based on their medical conditions; allow states to implement a work requirement; and defund Planned Parenthood.

2. Senator Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Bill Cassidy, R-La., introduced their health bill last week. The bill has two weeks to pass through the 2017 budget reconciliation bill, introduced to allow for such a bill to pass by a simple majority.

3. CNN reports the Graham-Cassidy bill is the last repeal attempt remaining in the Senate. A bipartisan Senate committee is working on a bill which would stabilize the ACA.

4. The Congressional Budget Office said it would be unable to release estimates before the bill's window passes.
