New Illinois Law Allows Patient Access to Physician Information, Including Disciplinary Actions

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn has signed into law the Patients' Right to Know Act, which allows patients to access key physician information, including whether they've been the subject of disciplinary action, according to a government release.

Under the new law, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation is required to make physician profiles available for public inspection, including an online database. The database will compile a wide range of information, including years in practice, hospital privileges, disciplinary actions, convictions, malpractice payments and more. If a physician reports inaccurate information, they face potential discipline.
