Scranton, Pa.-based Moses Taylor Hospital is pursuing hip, shoulder and knee replacement as well as spine surgery certifications from the Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.-based The Joint Commission, The Times Tribune reports.
Here's what you should know.
1. The hospital system is attempting to gain certification to accent its sister hospital, Regional Hospital of Scranton which has had the certifications since 2014.
2. In addition to the certification process, the two hospitals are streamlining services between the two campuses.
CEO Justin Davis said the hospital systems are "evaluating our options" on whether to combine the two separate orthopedic staffs.
3. The hospital is hoping its certification and renewed focus on patient education will raise the system's rating from CMS.
